There are many elements that affect fuel economy, and hence profitability and emissions. Understanding these is less than straightforward, which is why not all operators monitor consumption on the basis that it is just too complex!

However there are a number of simple measures that can demonstrably save diesel, and by monitoring consumption it is possible to calculate the substantial monetary and environmental benefits. There are many onboard telematics systems, that provide very accurate measurement for operators and there are a number of additional ways to improve the efficiency of your truck and/or van. These can discussed in detail by engaging with our experienced telematics professionals.

The modern commercial vehicle is an advanced piece of equipment and embraces the technological innovations brought about from the computer. All vehicles have Electronic Control Units (ECU’s) encompassing many of the vehicles constituent parts, for example the transmission and antilock braking. These parts communicate effectively through the vehicles Controller Area Network bus (CAN-bus), which for all intent and purpose is the vehicle’s “brain”. e@syTEL gathers the raw data produced by the Can-bus and presents its findings in a user friendly, easily measurable format. This allows the operator to measure, and more importantly manage its costs associated with running a commercial vehicle fleet.

Monitoring driver behaviour produces data, which can be used to improve performance by setting some key objectives. Typical areas for concern would be acceleration, harsh braking, fuel consumption and idling time. By showing an active interest in the drivers behaviour there is no doubt that e@syTEL has shown itself to be a motivational tool. Human nature dictates that most people want to do their best, and will strive to better themselves when given manageable targets for improvement. Vehicle telematics embrace this mindset and give companies the tools to measure the performance of their drivers and if deemed appropriate reward for showing significant improvement.
